Changi Museum the Top Museum in Singapore

Visit Singapore's Finest Museum

Singapore is a most intriguing place and is a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures. At one point the former prime ministers of the country defined it as a ‘society in transition’ instead of a nation because it consists of a diverse range of people with different languages and beliefs. The sprawling metropolis is also a popular tourism destination with many kinds of accommodation to choose from, even options such as a serviced apartment in Singapore with examples like Citadines Mount Sophia Singapore.

When it comes to a fascinating place like Singapore, delving into its history can be a very fulfilling endeavour. There’s a variety of museums to choose from, and one that constantly receives acclaim is the Changi Museum. The establishment as it exists today was founded in 2001, around sixty years after Singapore was defeated by the Japanese during the Second World War.

The museum was built to showcase the tribulations endured by the prisoners of war who were held captive at Changi Prison by the invading Japanese forces. Among the various exhibits is the display of letters that were sent to the people held as prisoners. There are also many insightful audio-visual presentations that are featured within the museum. The entry to the museum is free, but for $8 you can obtain a self-guided tour with headphones. This experience is quite renowned and comes highly recommended.

Through a visit, you will get to intimately experience what the prisoners went through, and it provides an overwhelming yet educational journey into the not-so-distant past. The museum also contains an assortment of artefacts that were donated by former prisoners of war, encompassing items such as paintings, photographs and various personal belongings. There’s also a series of water-colour paintings by Mary Angela Bateman who was among the thousands of women and children that were held at the camp.
A visit to Changi Museum is guaranteed to be an experience to remember.
