Helix Bridge

a landmark in Singapore

Amongst the very few bridges to have been named after its own structure, Helix Bridge in Singapore is an enthralling pedestrian bridge that successfully connects Marina Centre to Marina South and offers visitors breathtaking panoramas of the city and the Singapore River. Private accommodation Singapore is one of the more suited ways of lodging facilities in the city. So select Somerset Liang Court Singapore which offers serviced accommodation Singapore to come home to after taking a tour of this impressive construction.
Extending over the Singapore River, the bridge is 280 metres in length and has been in operation since the 24th of April 2010. The architecture of the bridge comprises of canopies that have been made of perforated steel mesh and fritted glass as part of its sinner spiral which provides much needed shade to those using it. The major and minor helices that spiral in opposing directions have an overall diameter of 10.8 m and 9.4 m respectively. 650 tonnes of duplex stainless steel coupled with an additional 1000 tonnes of carbon steel have been used so that the helix design could be brought about. The Helix Bridge was recognised by the building and Construction Authority at the BCA Design and Engineering Safety excellence Awards which was held in 2011. All in all a visit or even better a walk along this masterful structure is definitely a ‘must do’ for each and every one of you who are intrigued by the latest trends in engineering and construction.
