Changi Village

Singapore, like you have never seen it before

Changi Village is located on the far northeast coast of Singapore. It was once the site of the Changi Hospital, which during World War II was the Royal Air Force Hospital. It has become one of the top attractions in Singapore in recent times because of its bustling hawker centre, which recently underwent a ten month upgrade costing over five million dollars courtesy of the National Environment Agency and the Changi Point Ferry Terminal which runs ferries across to Malaysia.

Visitors to Singapore enjoy the shopping, nightlife and different dining experiences. Orchard Road is generally a safe landmark with which to get one’s bearings. Little India, Arab Street, Clarke Quay and China Town are a few of the other popular tourist spots and Sheraton Towers Singapore will place you squarely in the thick of things!

Travelling to Changi Village is a bit of distance but worth it for a completely different view of Singapore. The buildings are modern but the village charm is alive and well. Make a trip in the later afternoon and stay to watch the sunset. The Changi Point Coastal Walk will treat you to some stunning views of the lush coastal flora and even some fauna of the feathered variety. Bumboats carry passengers from the ferry terminal to Pengarang and Pulau Ubin daily. The highlight of Changi Village however, is the hawker center, which serves up Malay cuisine and other local delights. The ‘Nasi Lemak’ in particular comes highly recommended, while the Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee and range of barbequed seafood are a few other noteworthy options.

Explore the surrounding area if you prefer something less traditional; plenty of coffee shops, pubs and cafes serve western cuisine to suit any budget. Bus service number 29 transports visitors from Tampines Interchange to Changi Village Terminal, look out for the stop at Netheravon Road and take a short walk to the boardwalk entrance. Bus service number 2 will also bring you from opposite Tanah Merah MRT station to Changi Village, again a short walk is required to reach the boardwalk entrance.
