Visit to Siloso Point

The Only Preserved Coastal Fort in Singapore

The mere mention of an island resort usually prompts images of sun-kissed beaches lined with coconut trees and usually evokes feelings of relaxation, recuperation and solitude. Sentosa in Singapore while labelled an island resort evokes none of these images or emotions even though the name Sentosa itself actually means peace and tranquillity in English! For those visiting the city state of Singapore in South East Asia, leaving the country without making a visit to the fabulous and famous Sentosa Island seems unthinkable. While many associate the island with its famous Resorts World Sentosa which houses Universal Studios Singapore, many would be surprised that they can book a hotel in Sentosa Island and enjoy a quiet game of golf. Tourists can choose from hotels such as W Singapore Sentosa Cove which is a spectacularly convenient location to reside in given its close proximity to the theme parks.

The theme parks on Sentosa Island scarcely disappoint and offer patrons a vast selection of options. One of its highlights is Fort Siloso, also known as Siloso Point, and is the only fort on the coastal belt of Singapore that has been preserved. Exploring and experiencing Fort Siloso is no ordinary affair. It adopts a number of interactive exhibits that provides visitors with a valuable insight into one of the most contentious times in the state’s history. Siloso Point also boasts of housing the largest collection of World War II artefacts and various memorabilia in Singapore.

For those contemplating a visit, visiting the Fort during the weekend provides you with the opportunity of opting for a free guided tour. However, since such tours are restricted to 20 persons, prior and early registration is encouraged. Standard tourist rates are $12 for adults and a reduced fee of $9 is charged for senior citizens and children.
