Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium

The Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium was initiated to accommodate the famous ‘Jewel of Muscat’, the replica of the Arabian dhow shipwrecked near the Belitung Island. It features a range of interesting exhibits portraying the maritime culture of the east.

The main and the most interesting exhibit at this museum is the ‘Pirates of the East’, a unique concept where Cai Qian, the famous Chinese pirate, will guide the visitors through the fascinating world of Far Eastern pirates. Visitors get to explore how they live and died and how they pillaged and robbed ships. This is also the perfect opportunity to find out how the heroic Ming Admiral Zheng He hunted pirates and brought them to justice. The venue also offers an amazing exploration of the ancient Maritime Silk Route and a real life feel of a shipwreck during a typhoon at the Typhoon Theatre.

Other interesting explorations at the Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium includes, the life size replica of the massive fleet of Admiral Zheng He, of the Admiral himself, and most importantly Bao Chuan, his treasure ship. Visitors can also view the range of goods that were being transported in this ship: exotic animals, porcelain and silk.
The Jewel of Muscat is probably the most visited exhibit at this venue. This is a life-size replica of the famous 9th century dhow of the same name. The replica has been constructed according to the traditional methods using traditional raw materials, and is a gift from the Government of Oman to Singapore. The vessel actually sailed in 2010 from Oman to Singapore using its traditional navigational equipment. It had taken the vessel five months to complete the journey. One can also experience the eight different ports of call of the ancient maritime trade route; experience their cultures, and the uniqueness of each port.
This venue is also the perfect place to end the day with a range of seafood dishes, wine and great music at the Fish & Crab Shack.
