The Singapore International Film Festival is an event which is organized to have a whole month of award winning movies where the Singaporean people can have lovely time watching these fabulous movies. This extravagant festival was initially launched in the year 1987, since then this has been an annual event that is held in the months of April and May. Movies from over 45 countries which add up to about 300 films are shown continuously during this period. At present the director of the Festival is Jasmine Ng who was appointed in the year 2007 after the 20th edition of the Film Festival which was before organized by three directors namely, Teo Swee Leng, Philip Cheah, and Lesley Ho who were also the Board members. Currently the festival managers are Zhang Wenjie and Wahyuni A. Hadi who joined in 2008 to make the event more vibrant and successful. The main objectives of organizing this spectacular event is to pave a better path for the success of Singapore’s film Industry, to promote filming as a form of art, to give the audiences an opportunity to view the movies that are not released yet , educated the youngsters and upcoming artists about the amazing world beyond this industry.
The award ceremony of the Singapore International Film Festival is named as the Silver Screen Awards Competition which was brought up in 1991.
