No lions

Despite being named ‘Singapura’ by a prince from Sumatra, named Sand Nila Utama after he thought he saw a lion on the island – there have never been lions in Singapore. Singapura means ‘lion city’ in Sanskrit, and the kingdom was founded in the 13th century.

One of the three city-states

The world has three city-states, Vatican City, Monaco, and Singapore. Singapore’s territory includes one main island and 63 smaller islets.

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Did you know that Singapore boasts a UNESCO World Heritage Site? The Singapore Botanic Gardens, which were founded in 1859 is one of the three gardens in the world to carry the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. The gardens can be reached pretty easily through hotels in Little India, Singapore, the likes of, PARKROYAL On Kitchener Road Singapore.

Time zones

Since the year 1905, Singapore has changed its time zone a whopping 6 times!
