This structure dates to 1900 when it was built by Tan Teng Niah, a local businessman who had rubber and candy factories nearby. Featuring eight rooms, this residence is Little India’s last surviving Chinese villa and following its restoration in the 1980s, is now a landmark building under the National Heritage Board.

Striking Spectacle

While the building is open for commercial use, its most arresting element is the multicoloured exterior which has made it an Instagram favourite for locals and foreigners. Apart from this kaleidoscope of colour, the structure also features Chinese and European-style architecture, Chinese calligraphy and floral lunettes that add to its charm.

Other Area Attractions

Of course, there’s plenty more to do when in this area too such as plan visits to key attractions in Little India including the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and Abdul Gafoor Mosque. You can also look forward to savouring Indian cuisine at the Tekka Centre as well as shopping at the Little India Arcade and Mustafa Centre.
